{October 23, 2008}   Headphone Beanie Hat

Today’s item comes courtesy of ThinkGeek, and is a new alternative to wearing those pesky earbuds underneath your winterwear. I personally hate earbuds because they’re only comfortable for about ten minutes and then I want to rip them out of my ears.
The Headphone Beanie Hat features a winter beanie for $24.99, with built-in headphones and a standard 48 inch headphone jack cable that runs through the back of the hat. All you have to do is supply your music via iPod or MP3 player, and you’re good to go.

The internal speakers are adjustable, but it isn’t specified if they are removable, which would make it near impossible to wash the hat if need be. Also, while ThinkGeek offers the best price for the product, your color/style selection is limited to the standard blue beanie shown. The official Burton website offers more variety in the way of colors and styles, including a beanie with headphones in the earflaps (in which the headphones appear to be removable). These options come with a catch though – a Burton beanie will cost you $40-$45, so bear that in mind when making your purchase.

A good fit for outdoorsy types who can’t be bothered with standard headphones. It is also functional for students who have to walk from class to class in the cold, or who want test a new way to listen to music in class without getting caught.

All in all, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
