{October 27, 2009}   Black Out Room Roll

Halloween is almost upon us, and I cannot stress enough the importance of appropriate room decor. Just as you would decorate your house for Christmas, like the North Pole sneezed out a mixture of lights/fake snow/reindeer/snowmen/Santas, you need to prepare for Halloween. I mean, you can’t just throw some fake bats and spiders around the room and call it a day. That’s half-assed and simply unacceptable. You need to create an entire ambiance in order for to set the stage for the holiday, whether you’re hosting a fright fest or just some harmless trick-or-treaters. Believe me, it makes a difference.

One of the easiest ways you can completely freak somebody out is to mess with their senses a bit. Enter the Black Out Room Roll (Amazon, $22.99) and your unsuspecting prey will be thrust into a pitch black room. Talk about creepy! See, the mistake most people make when setting up for the holidays is that they leave the essence of their day-to-day routine out in the open. That’s not a problem for Christmas decor, but it can shatter the Halloween illusion you’re trying to create. With this 100 foot roll of plastic, you can cover up your walls entirely. Not only does this give you a blank canvas to add your decorations to, but it also is more than a little spooky. All you have to do is attach the room roll to your walls with a bit of adhesive (double-sided tape or sticky tack) and you’re ready to scare.

Last year, I has a Halloween party. I left my living room completely dark, lit only by strategically placed black lights, and suspended glow sticks from the ceiling. It was awesome.

4 out of 5 stars.
